JS Watch co. Reykjavik – probably the world’s smallest watch manufacturer
Timeless
It would be an understatement to say that we, the founders of JS Watch co. Reykjavik, were watch enthusiasts. As we embarked on our endeavor, many of our business minded friends concluded that to craft elegant timepieces for a domestic market of 300.000 would never work. But the market proved to be much larger. In fact, it became the whole world. Our timepieces are timeless, refined and sophisticated enough to adorn the wrists of stars like Jude Law, Quentin Tarantino, Viggo Mortensen and Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull.
The JS Watch co. collection features six models, all of which are meticulously designed by the company founders and assembled by Master Watchmaker, Gilbert Gudjonsson, using only the highest quality materials. Movements come from Switzerland, highly decorated with the regulating mechanism “assortment chronometer” Anachron hair-spring, Glucydur Balance wheel and 25 red rubies. You can see the magic happen inside through the display back on the stainless steel case made in Germany, the crystal is scratch resistant sapphire. Bands include hand made genuine Louisiana alligator and ostrich skin.
Last summer, the company produced a very limited edition collection of its “Islandus” model. It featured a dial made of sterling silver, steel blued hands and boasted a meticulous handmade and hand engraved movement, incorporating Glucydur screw balance with Nivarox-1 hairspring, swan neck fine regulating index, screwed gold cantons and eighteen rubies. We, the company founders, Julius Heidarsson – airline pilot, Sigurdur Gilbertsson – watchmaker and Grimkell Sigurthorsson – multi-media designer, proudly call ourselves “probably the world’s smallest watch manufacturer” referring to our workshop, about 8 square meters at the back of the Laugavegur storefront. There we combine the workshop and retail aspects of our business, so that our customers can be served by the very person who assembles their watch.
