Cloutier Nouvelle-France — dress watches with a philanthropic side
I’m really happy to bring to your attention another watch startup born in Montreal, Cloutier Nouvelle-France, founded by a group of friends who share a passion for watches and who all have philanthropy as a core value.
As Dany Cloutier, one of the founders, explained it to me, they chose Indigogo to launch their project, because it has a philanthropic twist. With their debut collection, Cloutier Nouvelle-France has partnered with WaterAid, a non-profit organization to ensure that for every watch sold, the gift of clean water will be provided to someone in need. Actually, they are donating WaterAid $25, every time a Cloutier watch is bought.
Their debut collection consists of basically two models, La Classique and Le Chrono, both offering the choice between a unisex 40 mm or a bigger 46 mm case. The stainless steel case offers further choices between rose gold or gold plated and pure stainless steel.
The leather strap offers further ways to customize the watch wide choice of colours: blue, red, brown and black.
Le Chrono is powered by a Swiss Ronda 5030.D while Le Classique is powered by a Ronda 715, both reliable quartz movements.
Prices vary between $129 CAD and $209 CAD, depending if you’re an early bird or not and remember when you buy a Cloutier, you’re also helping bring clean water to the less fortunate.
Some of the established watch brands have already understood that it is not enough to sponsor Hollywood actors or super rich athletes, they know that these days, conducting a socially responsible business is very important for many of their clients.
Starting a watch microbrand, just as with any startups, the challenges are many, they all have to climb a steep mountain, which also happens to be super crowded. By choosing the path of a social responsible business model, Cloutier is adding to the challenges, this one more reason you should check out their project on Indigogo and share it with your friends.
