Tempest – affordable forged carbon watch

Tempest Carbon

Tempest Carbon

Were you drooling over an Audemar Piguet forged carbon Royal Oak Offshore Diver, or the Linde Werdelin SpidoSpeed Carbon Green, well Tempest heard your suffering and their latest project launched on Kickstarter, the Tempest Carbon, is a diver watch created with the same process that is used by high-end brands.

The case of the watch is created by combining under extreme heat and pressure raw carbon with resin, with the shape of the case being machined and finished before being assembled together.

The resulting patterns are completely random; there are no two watches that will have the same pattern.

The dial, covered by a double domed sapphire crystal, features hand-applied markers filled with blue BWG9 Lumi-Nova, while the logo and the second hand is coated with orange luminous compound.

The Tempest Carbon is powered by a Miyota 9015, further protected by an inner stainless steel case, providing water resistance up to 200 m.

The Carbon is Tempest’s third project, after the highly successful Viking and Commodore. With this project, they were looking to raise £30,000, which they already surpassed. You can back this project till January 6, 2015, with pledges varying from £555 to £566 or £1106 for two watches. See them on Kickstarter at http://kck.st/1rSLvzj

As a graphic designer, I'm fascinated by the crossroads between technology and aesthetics. Horology is one of these crafts, where art and engineering come together to produce mechanical wonders that grace the eye. WatchPaper was born from the desire to create an online tool where I can share my passion for watches.
