We’re kicking off our series of articles dedicated to Only Watch 2015, with the Chopard Superfast Chrono Porsche 919, a unique racing piece signed by Mark Webber, a racing champion who is currently competing in the FIA World Endurance Championship as a Porsche works driver in LMP1.

About Only Watch 2015

Before we would go into details about this high-octane chronograph, let’s talk a bit about Only Watch, the charity auction of unique timepieces. Held every two years, in 2015, Only Watch is already at its sixth edition, the proceeds of the auction benefit the Monaco Association against Muscular Dystrophy, to help fund research on Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a genetic neuromuscular disease affecting 250,000 children, adolescents and young adults worldwide and provoking a progressive organism-wide degeneration of muscles.

The auction which will take place on November 7^th in Geneva, under the auspices of the Phillips auction house, will be proceeded by a promotional world tour, starting in Monaco, in the heart of the world’s benchmark superyacht event, the Monaco Yacht Show, from September 23 to 26, 2015, continuing with stops in Europe, the United States, and Asia.

We already presented the Superfast Chrono Porsche 919, when it first came out in 2014 to celebrate the partnership between Chopard and Porsche Motorsport in the World Endurance Championship (WEC).

For Only Watch, Chopard added several unique twists to the Superfast Chrono. If the original was made from stainless steel, the 45 mm case of the bespoke version is crafted from titanium. Under the hood, it keeps the same COSC certified calibre 03.05-M.

The dial is unchanged — inspired by the Porsche 919 Hybrid, the stripes on the dial recall the rear diffuser of the racing car. Likewise, the “919” appearing in the red rectangle in the 9 o’clock counter echoes the Porsche models competing in the World Endurance Championship.

The back, on the contrary, is completely different. Instead of the see-through back, the Only Watch version has a solid titanium case-back engraved with the inscriptions “Official Timing Partner Porsche Motorsport” and “Only Watch 2015”, as well as Mark Webber’s signature. He doesn’t need any introduction, but just to make sure we’re talking about the same person, this Mar Webber is the guy that spent 12 seasons on the Formula 1 circuit, with 36 podium finishes, 11 pole positions and nine Grand Prix victories. In 2014, he joined the Porsche Motorsport team to accompany the German manufacturer in its big return to competition in the World Endurance Championship (WEC). And now, he’s doing his part together with Chopard to bring collectors a unique watch:

“I didn’t hesitate when Chopard suggested I participate alongside the company for with Only Watch 2015. We have created a unique watch with materials identical to those of the automobile: titanium and carbon. I really hope that it will bring a concrete support for this association and that its future owner will be as happy as I am to help this cause.
