Arnold & Son HM Perpetual Moon steel case, blue guilloché dial
Arnold & Son has unveiled a new version of the HM Perpetual Moon with a steel case and blue guilloché dial. It is part of the Arnold & Son Royal Collection of timepieces inspired by watches created in the early part of John Arnold’s life, a tribute to traditional watchmaking and classical decorative arts.
Unlike the previous versions of the HM Perpetual Moon that were crafted from 18k rose gold, the 42 mm case of this latest model is made from stainless steel. The translucent blue lacquered guilloché dial features one of the largest moonphase displays on the market, taking up almost half of its surface. The 29 mm moonphase disk is decorated with the same blue lacquered guilloché as the dial, with two 11.2 mm three-dimensional hand-sculpted moon disks.

The back of the watch reveals the A&S1512 hand-wound movement, developed especially for the HM Perpetual Moon. The moonphase is not just a module added to a base calibre, but the entire movement was developed around this complication. One of the unique features of this movements is the addition of a second moon display visible on the back of the watch, featuring a graduated dial and a pointer hand that helps in setting the moonphase in a more precise manner.
The A&S1512 is designed to offer one of the most accurate moon phases on the market with only one day’s deviation every 122 years – at which point a single push on the corrector will keep it in sync for another 122 years.
Thanks to its two barrels, the calibre delivers 90 hours of power reserve.
Besides all these technical features, the movement receives the attention and care worthy of a royal timepiece, such as manually chamfered bridges with polished edges, Côtes de Genève rayonnantes and fine circular graining, circular grained wheels, and blued screws with polished and chamfered edges.
