In 2006, to mark their launch, Linde Werdelin created the Founders Watch, a GMT piece that was sold by invitation only. This year, to celebrate their tenth anniversary, Linde Werdelin is returning with another GMT, the LW 10-24 that will also be offered by invitation to a select group.

The LW 10-24 represents an important milestone for the brand as it is the first model of a new line of watches, the Third Generation, with a newly-designed case, a new movement, and for the first time LW is employing the same luminous system as they used for the Oktopus Frogman, a watch that was sold only to Frømandskorpset, the Danish Frogman Corps.

This new design is inspired by everything that came before. The early watches, the Founders, the Biformeter, were GMTs, while the 3-Timer had a third timezone. In the Second Generation was dedicated to skiing and diving, as both founders of LW, Morten Linde and Jorn Werdelin, are avid skiers and divers but both these sports often require travelling in order to participate and this where the LW 10-24 comes into the picture.

The LW 10-24 comes in two flavours, limited to 96 pieces each: the LW 10-24 Gold with an 18K rose gold outer case and the LW 10-24 3DTP Carbon with the outer case obtained using 3-Dimensional Thin Ply – a proprietary method of sculpting micro carbon fibres, resulting in finely-grooved facets.

While the new case design retains the unmistakable style of previous LW watches, there are a few subtle differences. The most noticeable being the bezel that recedes into the outer case to become purely functional, a crown-guard and strap-attachment device. This way there is more room for the dial, while the watch keeps the same size on the wrist (4mm x 46mm x 15mm).

The hands have been skeletonized with the LW Trigon pattern, both a practical solution to allow visibility of the complications below and a reference to the SpidoLite family’s progenitor, the Trigon.

The LW 10-24 will allow you to customise and personalise the back case. By default, you will be offered two back cases: the first one signed by Morten Linde and Jorn Werdelin, and since the LW 10-24 a very special edition, on the second case back the owner can create a custom engraving by working with Morten Linde and his design team. How cool is that!

As mentioned before, the LW 10-24 is powered by a new movement, the LW08 offering three GMT complications: a day/night indicator at 12 o’clock, a second time zone at 3 o’clock and AM/PM indicator at 6.

If you fell in love with any of the two LW 10-24 models, you can try your luck and contact Linde Werdelin. Even if priority will be given to those that were invited, there will be a few models up for grab for the general public, Linde Werdelin accepting reservations only until 31st of July 2016, with the delivery estimated for Q1/Q2 of 2017. The gold version is 39,000 CHF ($51,500 CAD) and the 3DTP Carbon is 27,000 CHF ($35,600 CAD).

As a graphic designer, I'm fascinated by the crossroads between technology and aesthetics. Horology is one of these crafts, where art and engineering come together to produce mechanical wonders that grace the eye. WatchPaper was born from the desire to create an online tool where I can share my passion for watches.
