Orion Field Standard Giveaway

Orion Field Standard

Orion Field Standard

The next WatchPaper & Microbrand Watches Group giveaway is an Orion Field Standard by Nick, a similar model to the one I had the pleasure to review a few months ago. The dial is a bit different, it’s a field watch and it has a date window at 3 o’clock.  The price of the Orion Field Standard on Nick’s website is US$450.

Inside the 38 mm polished stainless steel case, there is a Seiko NH35 automatic movement. The dial respects the design requirements of a field watch. The hands, known as “cathedral hands” are the quintessential field watch hand-set. They are large and have ample space for copious amounts of (C3) lume. Cathedral hands were featured on the first field and trench watches. The red tipped seconds hand is white and easy to pick out, for those times when you need to track something to the second.

About Orion

Orion was founded by Nick Harris, currently a full-time student at the SAWTA watchmaking school. Before the Orion, he was mainly doing Seiko mods that started as a hobby and with time, it turned into a business. With the Orion, he is assembling parts that are manufactured for him, and as he learns new techniques at the school, he is incorporating them in his watches.

As a graphic designer, I'm fascinated by the crossroads between technology and aesthetics. Horology is one of these crafts, where art and engineering come together to produce mechanical wonders that grace the eye. WatchPaper was born from the desire to create an online tool where I can share my passion for watches.
