TimeCaptain’s 5-Piece Dream Collection
Watch enthusiasts love these type of hypothetical questions — what is your fantasy 3-piece watch collection? What is your all-time top ten timepiece lineup? What is your ideal one watch for all occasions? Well, I was never a one-watch guy and even three pieces are too few for me. So, I have come up with my ideal 5-piece collection. If I had unlimited funds and had to choose five watches to fill my watch box, these are the ones.
This was a really simple, and fun, exercise for me. I began with the categories that my dream collection must cover. I will always want to have a dress piece, a versatile utility piece on steel bracelet, a casual piece on brown leather, a diver, and a motor racing chronograph.
I chose the A Lange & Sohne Saxonia Thin for my dress piece. It has a world class manual movement with 3 days of power reserve. It has no date or seconds hand. It is utterly beautiful and simple while being extremely high end. It is both elegant and masculine.
There was never any doubt for my utility piece — Rolex Datejust 41, smooth bezel, dark rhodium dial, oyster bracelet. This virtually perfect timepiece is high-end, understated and suited for any occasion at all.
For casual on brown leather, I chose the Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Chronograph. It could even double as my racing piece and offers real high horology. This sporty chrono is also classic and elegant.
I always want a really sporty diver for weekends and vacations. I have chosen the Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600m on a textile strap. This gorgeous piece boasts a serious manufacture movement and robust toughness.
I could never have a collection without a racing chronograph — one with genuine links to Formula 1. Ferrari has been my lifelong passion and Hublot is their official watch partner. I chose the Hublot Ferrari Flyback Titanium. With its rubber-topped-with-leather strap, complete with red stitching, this racer looks the part. An in-house flyback chronograph powers the watch right into my fantasy list.
It is highly unlikely that I will be acquiring these watches any time soon. And if I won the lottery and made it happen, it is highly unlikely that I would stop at just five pieces! But for argument’s sake, these are the five watches that make up my dream lineup. With this, I cover all of my required genres while having some of my very favourite watches. What is YOUR top 5 list? Do you have one? Perhaps it is time for some late-night online watch browsing. As always, the fun is in the search…
Yours truly,
TimeCaptain
