Piaget iPhone and iPad App

In November 2013, Piaget introduces its “Master in Ultra-Thin Major Complications” application for iPad and iPhone. With its modern design and easy-to-navigate features, the free interactive app offers a unique journey of discovery into the world of Piaget’s major ultra-thin complications. The new app reinforces Piaget’s mobile offering following the launch of its mobile enabled website in August 2013.

Designed for watchmaking enthusiasts, collectors and specialists in Haute Horlogerie, the interactive digital experience showcases the world’s thinnest self-winding Minute Repeater movement 1290P, a marvel entirely developed, produced and assembled in its two Manufactures – the historic Manufacture of La Côte-aux-Fées and the other in Plan-les-Ouates. The app reveals how Piaget’s two fully integrated Manufacture teams achieved a double record in thinness with this timepiece: the world’s thinnest self-winding Minute Repeater movement with 4.8 mm (407 components) and the world’s thinnest self-winding Minute Repeater watch with 9.4 mm.

While browsing the features of the app, users will discover that this authentic tour de force not only offers the thinnest movement in its category along with the thinnest case, but a movement enriched with an automatic winding mechanism and endowed with an exceptional sound. For those looking to understand how such records in slenderness are broken, the app unlocks the secrets to this watchmaking wonder. Delivering such an ultra thin timepiece without compromising on performance is the result of Piaget’s dedication to unfaltering technical mastery and excellence in design.

Because the Minute Repeater cannot be fully experienced without hearing the rare acoustic of its symphonic chime, a unique feature of the app gives the user the opportunity to make the timepiece ring and enjoy its pure sound with astounding accuracy. Whether the cushion-shaped movement, the highest level of finishing delivered by hand or the finely crafted case, a short video brings to life all the minute details of this ground-breaking watch.

While the visuals and overall design emphasize the aesthetics of the timepieces, the app delivers great utility with technical information readily available at the user’s fingertips. Alongside the Minute Repeater, other iconic major complications developed by Piaget are presented including the Perpetual Calendar, the Chronograph and the world’s thinnest hand-wound shaped Tourbillon. Exploring the app promises a complete immersion into Piaget’s fine art of watchmaking.

You can download it from the iTunes App Store.

As a graphic designer, I'm fascinated by the crossroads between technology and aesthetics. Horology is one of these crafts, where art and engineering come together to produce mechanical wonders that grace the eye. WatchPaper was born from the desire to create an online tool where I can share my passion for watches.
