IWC Connect — one more vote for the connected strap
We said this, over and over, brands with a long tradition for their mechanical watches should not start making gadgets and should focus on pushing the boundaries of mechanical watchmaking. They can leave the quest for building gadget to others that are specialized in this field. If we can’t imagine our life any more without an activity tracker, there is always there the watch strap to collect all the data that we want. This is exactly the path that the watchmaker of Schaffhausen chose with the IWC Connect.
Basically, this new tool is designed to be integrated into the straps of IWC sports watches, beginning with the Big Pilot’s. It will give wearers control over certain devices connected to the Internet of Things (IoT) and
provide fully fledged activity tracking.
For the moment, details about the IWC Connect are sketchy, all we know is that it will be built by a digital technology company and that the launch date will be announced in the coming months.
Georges Kern, CEO of IWC Schaffhausen has declared:
“…this is essential, we do not touch our beautiful watches – an ‘IWC’ stays a mechanical handcrafted timepiece. We’ve engineered an intelligent design solution which perfectly integrates and underlines our product worlds.”
A wise decision, IWC!
