The Grande Heure Minute Quantième is the latest creation of Jaquet Droz. Its steel case comes in two sizes, 39 or 43 mm, with silvered opaline or blue Côtes de Genève dial.
While it is a three hands and date watch, it is far from being boring. I’m particularly found of the seconds hand and its red tip that brings a bit of playfulness into an overall sober design that is so typical of Jaquet Droz.
The date window at 6 o’clock is another interesting feature of this watch, its shape reminds me an embrasure on a medieval fortress. Apart its unique design, it also gives a lot of depth to the dial. On the last day of the month the date is displayed in red.
The Jaquet Droz Grande Heure Minute Quantième is powered by the JD1150P automatic calibre, offereing 68 hours of power reserve.
The Grande Heure Minute Quantième is powered by the automatic JD1150P, a silicon spiral movement introduced in 2014. Silicon is not only non-magnetic, but is also unaffected by changes in temperature and pressure, guaranteeing optimal performance over time and in the most extreme conditions. At present, there are only a few watchmaking brands able to fashion this both flexible and extremely resistant material. The polished aesthetic of the movement, with its openworked rotor, is visible through the exhibition case-back.
As an entry level model, they will retail at around $10,000 US.
