When you are a watch nerd, you can’t just watch a movie, a political convention, or the Olympic Games without noticing the watches appearing on the screen. Omega being the official timekeeper of the Olympics, at Rio, we could not miss the last letter of the Greek alphabet, it was everywhere.

And there were the ambassadors too: since we mentioned Omega, let’s start with Michael Phelp, “Lightning” Bolt was representing Hublot, Novak Djokovic, the Seiko ambassador, and of course, one of the most memorable moments of the games was brought to us by Wayde van Niekerk, when he broke the world record on 400 m with a Richard Mille RM27-02 Tourbillon on his wrist.

But there were many competitions and great moments that we missed — CBC butchered the transmission, by turning it into a talk show — one of them being the sailing events, where surprise, surprise, the German yachtswomen team of Annika Bochmann and Marlene Steinherr were supported by… Mühle-Glashütte! They had a good start, but unfortunately, when only a few point separated them from the final, their mainsail was torn apart.

I know, not everyone will agree with me, but I find it really cool to see a brand with a long history of making nautical instruments, supporting the German athletes competing in a nautical event. Danke schön, Mühle-Glashütte! Keep up the good work!
